Project description

The Quality of Care Collaborative Australia (QuoCCA) project delivers paediatric palliative care education to health and education professionals and communities in urban, regional and remote areas who may care for children and young people with palliative and end-of-life care needs.

The project seeks to bring about improvements in skills, knowledge and confidence of health professionals involved in delivery of paediatric palliative care across Australia. Improvements in timely and appropriate access to, and quality of, paediatric palliative care in acute and community settings across Australia will be achieved through delivery of education and research.

Learning options

  • Self-paced online learning modules:
    • Overview of paediatric palliative care
    • Communication with families about children who have life-limiting conditions
    • Child Safety and Protection in PPC
    • Fundamentals of paediatric palliative care for allied health e-Learning package (multiple modules)
  • Educational videos for workforce development which can be incorporated into paediatric palliative care education and training events.
  • Paediatric Palliative Care: e-Learning and workshop. Case-based e-learning modules are completed prior to an interactive face-to-face 1 day workshop.
  • Pop-up model of care. A team of specialist paediatric palliative care teams and educators visit for education around a specific case consult as guided by the child, family and/or local health team.

Target audience

Any health professional, including medical, nursing, and allied health or local community supports (e.g. chaplains, teachers, funeral directors) with an interest in supporting children with palliative care needs

Learning options

  • Education sessions – scheduled multidisciplinary sessions can be arranged at any metropolitan, regional, rural or even remote setting.  Half or full day workshops are available. 
  • Pop-up – we can come to you! A team of specialist paediatric palliative care teams and educators can visit for education around a specific case consult as guided by the child, family and/or local health team. 
  • Self-paced On-line learning module: Communicating with families about children who have life-limiting conditions (login required)
