Aged care hub

Australia’s population is ageing. People are living longer, more people are reaching older ages, and Australians are dying older. Around 75% of those aged over 65 had used an aged care service during the 12 months before they died.

Population ageing is influencing care expectations of older people, demand for and use of aged care services, and the need for palliative care and care at the end of life. The aged care workforce needs access to information and resources to enable them to provide care for older people as they approach the end of life whether in residential aged care or receiving a home care package.

Palliative care providers need to understand the structure and context of aged care. Significant reform has, and will continue to, impact how aged care and services are delivered to older Australians. The funding and regulation of aged care services is predominantly the role of the Australian Government.

CareSearch runs palliAGED and is part of the ELDAC consortium. These two projects offer a significant range of evidence, practice resources and tools to support aged care in caring for older Australians with palliative care needs and those coming to the end of their life.

palliAGED
