Nurses often spend a lot of time with the dying person and their family. In this position you have an important role in recognising changes as illness progresses including the assessment and re-assessment of needs. You will also help to coordinate care with the person, their family and other health professionals. Across each of these roles, good communication skills and support for emotional needs is important.
Within these pages you will find information related to common ethical and care issues. This includes information to support both the patient and their families, and information to support nurses working in palliative care.
