CareSearch Director invited to Ageing Asia
An article written by Professor Jennifer Tieman
Sometimes getting out of your office and into the world helps you develop new perspectives as well as new connections. I had the privilege of visiting Singapore to attend the World Ageing Festival 2024 as a guest of the Lien Foundation. It was also a remarkable opportunity to meet with services, organisations and project groups working in ageing and palliative care. The conference was vibrant, and a showcase of technology, initiatives and service approaches filled with care and compassion. There were people from around the world who worked in hospitals, aged care services, universities, and community groups.
It was a particular privilege to meet people from Blossom Seeds, from Dementia Singapore, from Hospice Singapore and from the palliative care team at the National Cancer Centre. This gave me the chance to see practice and engagement in these different settings and to learn and to share what we do. I was keen to share the work we do in CareSearch and in palliAGED and with our partners (Advance, ARIIA, CarerHelp, Caring@Home, ELDAC, End of Life Essentials, and Talking End of Life (TEL)). What impressed me was the positive and kind nature of all the people I met in Singapore. They were happy to meet and discuss and to look at how we can provide quality care for people who need palliative care. I am looking forward to continuing discussions and connections and sharing what I have learned with our teams and projects.
